Prayers please...
Not really my style, but I am going to copy and paste an email from my sister Tasha on one of her students. He tried to commit suicide last week....
from Tasha:
"Gosh...experiencing a lot of suffering but a whole lot of beauty in Belize.
I spent the weekend in Belize City so that I could be with Bernard. God's hand is most definitely at work in this situation. I don't know how to write about it all. Overwhelming and I am quite zapped right now and relating the situation seems to trespass what words let alone an email could communicate.
His chances of survival have been increased due to starting him on dialysis yesterday and doctor is administering a special medication that is controversial but has a success rate that makes it seem like its worth a shot. Thanks to some very generous Belizean hearts, some money has been given so as to make some of the dialysis possible...that was one of the most frustrating parts of the experience...knowing what can possibly help the kid but family and other sources lacking the money to do it and the one hospital in belize that does the dialysis requires money up front. But over and over God is taking care of the details. one of the other frustrating part was that his family seemed to be deserting him during a time when they need to rally together for love and support. A lot of his family seems to be really disgusted, disappointed, and puzzled by him and what happened. I had such a hard time yesterday leaving the hospital knowing that for my own sake and also for the sake of the family that I ahd to go. Staying was probably preventing some healing within family from occurring. One comforting realization is that he is in possibly one of the best states of his life to die. He has received communion every day...even had mass in his hospital room in big public hospital yesterday. He is so precious. There's just something super special about this kid that has made it possible for me to love him so easily...started the day we met. We (probably more so I since talking exhausts me) decided that we can silently communicate a lot more than when we speak and so peaceful just to look at him and experience his gaze back knowing that we're communicating exactly what needs to be. but it breaks my heart. so hard to believe that someone who looks ok on the outside may have poison rotting his insides (he took not only gramazone but also a more lethal poison, "toxic roudup") and may just have a short time to live. I took a much needed day off today to try to get a handle on all this but doubtful if that's possible.
So please keep him and his family in your prayers. I've concluded that praying that all esp family accept God's will be it he live or die may be the best thing to hope for.
so love each other, got that!!!!!!!
much paz! Natasha"

what a week!
Well, if any more time passes I will just post a calendar of events.
First off, for those of you who like a brief, I am doing very well. Corpus Christi remains a great place. And, for a person who doesn't do anything, I seem to be overwhelmed with things to do….
This week has truly been a whirlwind. Last weekend was great. There was nothing more incredible then getting together with my mom and my Medjugorje group Friday in San Antonio. They are all so different yet collectively the most beautiful group of spiritual individuals. I am truly blessed to have each in my life. The only draw back of the gathering was arriving home at 3 A.M. especially with plans of attending a conference/retreat on "Healing the Image of Women" Saturday morning….
I did make it to the retreat, unfortunately only in the afternoon. The speaker conveyed a wealth of information in the one talk I heard; I was sorry to have missed the rest but know that an entire day may have been too overwhelming. Thankfully there will be audio tapes, so I can get myself (and everyone else:)) up-to-speed.
Tuesday brought some unusual fun… ELECTION DAY!!! And, not only did I vote in the Republican Primary, I worked in the Republican Primary! It was a fun day of sitting in the neighborhood elementary school cafeteria!
Actually the most the fun came in seeing the kids at breakfast, (yeah that happens when you have to be there BEFORE 7 in the morning. Um, for those of you who know me in the morning so well, that was before 7, as in 6:40!!!! I didn’t crack a smile for three hours and that was even after a grand java!), seeing them again at lunch and seeing them for latchkey until the polls closed at 7P.M. Quite a grueling day of sitting for someone who thinks they have body aches after three hours at a ballgame….
There were perks beside the kids. I did have a blast seeing many people: everyone from an old swim coach, old parish priest, my dentist, my dad (friendly visitor :) the list goes on. I LOVE C.C.! In addition, I find politics truly fascinating and exciting. If it wasn’t for the crazy hours and having to sit so long, may have been a great day! My mom was the greatest blessing reliving me to walk around the park several times and returning in the afternoon with tea and snacks!
As if the excitement could stop… I went to a great talk at Del Mar College Wednesday: "Leading Women: Stories of Liberation, Empowerment, Achievement and Diversity." It was a panel of five women from the community in various positions of leadership (everything from Vice President of the junior college to a federal judge) sharing their struggles and triumphs throughout their lives.
I will be completely honest, I was thinking it would be a bit of a feminist rally, interested in seeing in order to discredit, but I was pleasantly surprised. All of the women were educated, competent, faithful, loving, family oriented women whose role models were mothers as well as religious members who sited God, their parents and their husbands as their greatest support. Quite an invigorating experience (as you can probably tell from that run-on:))! For someone who is totally not the girl power type, I have seem an impressive slew of womanly things this week!
Thursday was super low-key just Catechism in the morning, lunch at the newer Hu Dat with the 'rents and a trip to the super HEB with mom. I think I must be behaving because she bought me special ice cream – raspberry merlot!!!!! I get to put it in a ice cream cones too!
Last big event of the week – BASEBALL!!!!! The Whataburger College Classic was this weekend with TAMCC, TCU, ASU and Rice. Go owls!!!! First game was Friday night against TCU – rice took the lead and the win, yeah! After the game I was able to attend a reception with the new Coach Graham, the new football coach. I am so excited about where the program is going; I wanted to walk-on. His enthusiasm will be the change and motivation the team really needs to become a success. I see a bowl bid in the next few years…!
The next game was against ASU. I would rather not talk about it.
Rice was the finer team taking the early lead, but as my dad and I munched on our crispy chicken strips and crunchy French fries anticipating our well deserved victory something terrible happened! The umpire turned maliciously against us! Well, he was slightly aided by a few Rice errors and maybe a skilled ASU at bat, but there is no reason the Owls should have lost in the 10th! I sat there for over three hours to see them lose in the bottom of the tenth inning, disgusting! My Dad and I did get a clip on the news though, consoling:)
Today was a recovery. The ump called the game in the 7th when the score was something like 23-1. Poor Islanders were having a super rough day, but to Rice's advantage, so…!
Other then baseball with my dad (my mom was there Sunday too), I only managed to go to the parish cleanup Saturday morning.
Um, Monsignor Danny next time you want leaves picked up I hope I have something supper important to do:)!!!! I was a bit frustrating to pick up pile after pile after pile after… of leaves in what seemed to be a wind storm, but then that is a bit perpetual here. Not only was the wind whirling the leaves on the ground, it was knocking more off the trees… grrr! LENT was the only consolation.
Although I do sound like I am just complaining, I did have a great time spending the morning at the parish. All the parishioners are first-rate people; it was fun getting to know several especially in a relaxed work setting (the relaxed part would be when I escaped to sit on the ice chest, drink Dr. Pepper and talk to anyone in site:)).
It is always nice to know I am doing something to help even if it is as trivial as picking up leaves. I do just love my parish!
Other then that I have just being trying to figure out what life is about… I will let you know when the revelation takes place:)! In the mean time I've been getting some exercise, the athletic club is terrific, eating great food, and enjoying my beautiful parents. They are the most generous people giving me such a chunk of their lived in an unexpected and bit abnormal time. I know that I have been blessed throughout my life the way Tasha and my development have been a huge focus.
A friend of mine sent me this quote today that I really like, so…
"I do not know if I am doing your will Lord. But the fact I try to do your will is pleasing to you". Thomas Merton
Love and prayers to all!

and.... it's lent....
There are just so many unbelievably wonderful things to write, but (and I am not saying this to be a downer…) but knowing that so close to my heart (around Tasha) there are so many unbelievable challenges being taken on alone is a bit disheartening.
So... as I start, if you only have two minutes, please take that time to pray for Tasha and skip reading my blog.
Now for a quick brief... and oh some of the funny frivolities…
The Rice baseball game in C.C. last Tuesday was great!!!! And of course the owls won.
Little known fact: Wataburger field has the world's greatest fries! Really crispy, bits of skin and lots of salt and pepper and BIG ketchup dishes:) a must have!
My mom and I celebrated Fat Tuesday with a trip to the new, super huge H.E.B on Saratoga. It was incredible. So large, tons of fresh things, even a sushi stand and organic cranberry walnut bread. Who knew that could be here????
The best part was being chased down by a women and two HEB employees after we stole a cart, um, with a purse in it… hey, it was easy to be distracted by the pretzel with chipotle mustard sauce sample:)….
This does rival for the best part, dairy free ice cream - a brand I didn’t even know existed that uses coconut milk! I opted for the Tequila Lime – terrific!!!!
look it's HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
more pics at the bottom.
Now for ash Wednesday… yep lent is still... not my favorite season. I even had the great Lenten experience of going to mass at the normal time, but since lent just isn’t normal, it started at 6:30, an hour latter. But why use complaints for start time when you can save them for when it ends – KIDDING!!! Honest!!!!
Thursdays favorite and major highlight.
No, surprisingly not the flashbacks that accompanied the wonderful chicken and dumplings that my mummie made, how does she make things taste so good?
It was - once again becoming a member of the Corpus Christi Athletic Club!
My dad has been on medical leave for the past month, so when he reactivated he started (unfortunately at 26 I am just too old to be added as his daughter, strange if you ask me!) a membership for me. The best part was when the membership guy looked at me while filling out the paperwork and said, "So I guess the same address?" He stopped asking questions by the time he came to N/A for employer – thank you for not giving me the "loser" look! Anyway, I may have a few issues:) - getting to the age in life that I thought I would have it all together and seem to be going the other direction in some aspects.
My mom and I are off to S.A. in the afternoon to meet up with our wonderful Medjugorje travel friends!!!!! I can't wait they are terrific!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and i am getting good at the San Antonio trip!)
Love and prayers to all!
