no fear it's a NEW YEAR!

Maybe one of my new years resolutions should be to write more short messages, might take that one up tomorrow, but for now an, um, quick catch-up:).

Christmas was the best ever! Midnight mass was so glorious I thought I went to heaven instead of little Jesus coming to earth. Honest! The choir and instrumentals were great! Harp, organ, clarinet, brass, harpsichord, you name it all with the most incredible choir! Anyway there was no place better in the world then sitting in that pew with Tasha and my mom! We all slept in Christmas day, had a terrific breakfast at noon (even had real bacon!) took family photos, opened gifts and then ate again.

For those fellow foodies, we started with crisped wheat pitas with fresh garlic, humus, sliced veggies with olive oil and vinegar. Put my dad's masterful grilling skills to work on succulent grilled lamb chops, topped tomato and fresh mint vinaigrette, cherry tomatoes and baby onions squired on fresh rosemary branches, grilled herbed eggplant, steamed green beans with light orange and white wine sauce topped with toasted walnuts and orange zest, couscous with saffron strands and then finished with individual pear tartlets (it actually took me 3 days to finish mine stayed so fullJ). All food was kosher of course:)!

We ended the day celebrating the first night of Hanukah. Although it is now the last day, I am still not completely sure I understand why we are celebrating it, but it has been fun none the less. The Four of us sit down, say our prayers, light the menorah, and then open gifts. Our neighbor even brought over potato latke one night:).
Now I am even more convicted I want to marry a kosher Jew (maybe just for the selfish reason it would ease the pressure of creating dairy awareness).

Rhian and Lily stopped by on Monday. I love them both so much and know how lucky I have been to have such blessings in my life. Makes me miss the U.S. and all the contact I am able to have with those I love.

My birthday was great, except as my dear aunt blatantly put it the other day now I am closer to 30 then 20, Eeeek! Suddenly I really do feel a bit older. I guess I am just realizing how I thought I would have "everything" figured out by now. Oh well, it is nice to realize how much I have yet to discover:). Anyway Tasha, my mom and I went to mass at the cathedral (my mom had the mass celebrated for me) and then lunch with my dad. Raw oysters and rare grilled tuna with wasabi sauce.
I had a hair appointment in the afternoon. Nice glass of wine, scalp massage and then a great cut. I felt like a princess, and I was:)! Afterwards my mom and I snuck off to happy hour - icy Modelo and more raw oysters. I was in heaven all day. My family does such an incredible job making me feel loved, needed and cared for all the time. I don’t know why I have been so blessed!!!!

Anyway, next big even was Jason, Tasha's old crony coming to visit. It was so wonderful to see him, it has been several years. He is so easy to get along with, um except my parents do seem to show him a bit of favoritism:).

Saw Memoirs of a Geisha yesterday, interesting movie… I have my opinions on the glamorization of glorified prostitution, but it was a tremendous movie none the less…. I have to put that note in just in case Tasha reads this:).

As for New Years, figured today it was the first time since the 97/98 turnover that our family has all been together (my fault each year:(), we spent it with old neighbors at their new house. In past three days they caught over 60 sand trout, so in combination with a new Christmas fryer, it was a feast! Spent the night playing ping pong:) (just need to learn how to unlock my elbow and reach and I will have talent) and poker. It was awesome to be among friends and my family. The New Year has just been spent relaxing with the 'rents. Now all I have to do is resolutions – Eeek!

As always love and prayers to all!!!!!

I promise, now that I am update, my new leaf will be blogs that are interesting not just itineraries. May even try to let you all see my life more through my eyes and less through my stomach…food for thought?:)

2006 is going to be great - just wait!
